BRICK STYLES AND SIZES
Although any reasonably smooth brick can be used, we have chosen a brick that suits the needs of most projects and will still be available for future replacements or additions. This is a quality red clay brick called “Colonial Grain Satin Modular Solid”. The dimensions are 2 1/4” x 3 5/8” x 7 5/8”, weighing 4.8 pounds.

If you would like to use another type of brick, please provide a sample so we can test our process on it. This will insure that the brick chosen will be a suitable end product.

TILE STYLES AND SIZES
Any reasonably smooth surfaced ceramic tile, including glazed block and Terra Cotta, can be carved with our Graphic Blast® process. They can even be fired a second time for contrasting design or copy, or for a durable exterior use. If the tile is being mounted outdoors, it must be rated “frost proof”.

Usually, regular wall and floor tiles are available in colors to suit any décor and are available in 4 1/4”, 6”, 8”, and 12” squares. Your local carpet or decorating center can help you choose an appropriate type and color for your needs.

If possible, before placing your order for engraved tiles, please provide a sample of your tile selection so we can test our process on it. This will insure that your selection will be a suitable end product. Be aware that some types of tile are very porous and not suitable for engraving.

LOGOS AND DESIGNS
There are a number of methods to personalize each product. Use of a logo or special design, including signatures, can be incorporated with a message adding individuality to the project. We also have the capability of reproducing foreign languages. All of these options require that you provide us with camera ready artwork, a black and white PMT, or film positive with crisp, clear detail. See our Artwork Requirements Page for more information.

ENGRAVING
One of the most important decisions regarding the actual manufacturing of the product you have selected will be the type style used in the engraving process. Clarity, style, and appearance are all important considerations. Just about any letter style may be used for the copy. However, we recommend a “sans serif” typeface, as they are easier to read. Letter infill is available in any of our “MP” colors . For bricks, we recommend using a black infill for the best contrast.

DONOR BRICKS

260414
7 5/8” x 3 5/8” x 2 1/4” Colonial Grain Solid Clay donor recognition bricks Graphic Blast® engraved copy and logo.
The smallest type that we can achieve with our Graphic Blast® process on a brick is 3/8” in height measuring the upper case letter. With this type size, and our recommended type styles, the maximum character count using all capital lettering and no logo or design per brick would be as follows:

The above character counts will decrease as the type size increases or a logo/design is present. For example, using 1/2” copy and no logo or design, the above character counts change to:

Fourteen or fifteen characters and spaces per line seem to fit the needs of most contributors. We can provide recommendations and letter/space counts when we see some typical copy.

For tile, we can provide recommendations for letter/space counts when we see some typical copy and the tile size that you prefer.

HOW TO ORDER:

When ordering, we need to know the following:
Quantity
Exact Copy

If you have decided to use several letter sizes and/or layouts, it is best to group them to avoid confusion. When logos or special designs are requested, providing us with camera ready artwork is required. It should be full-size or larger film positive or PMT (Photo Mechanical Transfer). See our Artwork Requirements page for more information.

It is best if you can provide us with a list of names or donors for your project using an electronic file from Microsoft Word®, Microsoft Excel®, or Word Perfect®. Your document should be set up as shown below:

SORT NAME LINE 1 LINE 2 LINE 3
DOE IN MEMORY OF JANE DOE 1936 - 1995
SMITH IN HONOR OF ROBERT SMITH
DOE THE DOE FAMILY JOHN, JANE PETE & AMY

Best will provide a sign schedule so that you can check layout and proof for spelling errors. We highly recommend that you proof this list carefully, since once engraved, it is “set in stone”. If you have major changes in the layout after production has started, there will be additional charges for the corrections. We do emphasize the need to thoroughly review the layouts before approving the order.

Before entering final production, we can provide a sample for approval. This sample would be one of the actual pieces for your order. This will give you the opportunity to approve the final product before mass production takes place, and can serve as additional promotional material.
